Mullet Alert!!!!

A friend of mine from work was able to snap this quick photo of  a real life mullet with her cell phone camera. The MARC train is nice because there is enough time to actually sketch people, but the people are usually pretty conservative looking. The DC Metro is where all the interesting-looking people come out.... but no time to draw. Finally, I might find use for this cell phone camera after all.

Duck Man Returns!!!

I mentioned the duck man and how I needed another chance to capture his face, and he sat next to me. Too close to draw him however. He did talk to me though, he liked my MacBook and talked about how he was a "Mac Guy." I sat there silent and stunned nodding at all the random comments he was making. First reason, I was shocked to see the man again, I was on a very random 5:16 pm train and usually I see him on the 7:20 am train, I was caught off-guard. Second reason, we were in the quiet car... I could feel peoples eyes staring at us, the uncomfortable throat clear of the man in the row ahead of us, and the frustrated rusting of many newspapers. I waited... waited for the Quiet Car enforcer of the 5:16 pm train to come storming out of no where and give us the, "SHHHHHH!!!!!!!" while pointing at the sign. Luckily, Duck man fell asleep and snored the entire way home. I should have drawn him at this time, but I didn't have a pen. Typical.

Speaking of Sea Creatures

The Metro escalators were acting up the other day. They sounded like a bunch of sick whales. I await the day when the stairs shut down, flatten out, and I slide down.

Whale

I like drawing on the MARC train better than the DC Metro. The seats are taller and it is easier to hide. I hate when people watch me draw, I mess up. The book reads,"Moby Dick." I have no idea what she was reading, however in my first few weeks riding the train, I saw three separate instances of men reading Moby Dick. Different covers and different people. Must have been the Autumn craze.

Oh Summer Time...

I am looking forward to the summer. One, because the weather is warm and people seem to be in a more positive mindset. Two, because the tourists come to town. Most of the time tourists are annoying, they get in the way, they stop on the left side of the escalator, gawk at the interior of the metro stations, and ask everyone directions about eight times before they finally board a train. However, they make nice Sketchy Commuter fodder.

People I don't like

1. Girl who cannot have a conversation with anyone because she is too much of a snob.

2. Man who yells at anyone who so much as sneezes in the Quiet Car... 7:20 shift. There seems to be a Quiet Car enforcer on every train.

3. Woman who dresses not in business casual attire, instead  dresses in business lewd attire.

More Toad People!

I swear, common decency is just thrown out the window. Everyone is out for themselves. I was yelled at for blocking the door the other day. The reason, I was stuck in between the door and a baby stroller. The conversation went something like this:

Random nasty woman (toward me), "Some people just don't know when to get out of the way!"

Uneducated Man(also directed toward me), "Yea, some people can't learn how to ride the Metro."

Me, "I can't move there is a baby right here"

Uneducated Man, "Well I guess that's part of your problem."

Me, "It's not my baby!"

Uneducated man disappears into the crowd.

Children are not safe from these fanatics. A woman once used her baby stroller to jam the doors so they would open. Her child was in the stroller. There is always another train, usually one or two minutes behind the current train. But apparently the life of a child is not as important as being one or two minutes late.
